Krobath Gallery proudly presents the first solo exhibition of Andreas Golinski on November 16, 2010.

Andreas Golinski (*1979/Germany) is one of the most interesting emerging artists in Germany. He lives in Milan and Essen and his work connects the Italian Arte Povera with conceptual minimalism. What is radically new about Golinski’s artwork is the immediacy of his incredibly sensitive sketches conveying the fragility of human existence, and his use of a tough material language to achieve this.

In the current exhibition, Andreas Golinski deals with an almost forgotten architect from Vienna: Rudolf Perco. He was a student of Otto Wagner’s and linked classicistic-monumental elements with the utopian-visionary approaches of the New Objectivity. Due to the megalomaniac dimensions of his drafts, many of his projects remained unfinished. The fact that Perco’s visions vanished into oblivion is characteristic of the tragedy of his creative work and the traumatic nature of his life.

For this exhibition, Andreas Golinski embarked on an intensive search for traces and made collages of Rudolf Perco’s photos and copies of his drawings and blueprints. In the centre of the gallery, there are seven columns representing the only projects of Perco’s that were ever realised. The artist draws a rather gloomy scenario on the walls, where past and present, reality and projection blend into and neutralize each other in a dream-like fashion. Golinski thus creates an impressive realm of memory where his pictures and objects intertwine to form a tight narrative network around the tragic life and work of the architect.
